Sunscreen, or sun block, is essentially a protective cream you apply to the outermost layer of skin to help it resist the damaging UV exposure.
But it is still very useful to remember, a sunscreen is only a filter, and it doesn’t stop all the excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays.
Therefore, you shouldn’t think of sunscreen as your most important defense mechanism. Plan ahead by using sunscreen, particularly if you don’t have other options for skin level of protection.
Tanning beds or indoor tanning sun lamps produce high levels of UV radiation, which can result in long-term skin damage.
Even though the exposure to UV radiation from tanning beds is low, the long-term use of tanning beds can increase your risk of developing skin cancer or other sun-damaged skin problems.
The effect of UV light radiation on the skin is cumulative, so the more you are exposed to, the greater your lifetime risk of developing any types of skin cancer.
It is important to take steps to protect your skin from the sun, and if you are unsure about how to do so, consult your doctor or dermatologist.
