For some people, working out and getting in shape can be a real pain in the butt. Unless you’re naturally motivated and you can do it without really thinking about it, you’re probably going to need to find ways to help you stay focused and on track with your fitness goals.

Here are some things you can do to help keep you on track:

Join a gym, or at least make sure you have some equipment in your house

This is so you’re not tempted to use the couch as a replacement for the weight bench. If you don’t have weights, get yourself a dumbbell set. You don’t even have to go all out and get an expensive set. Buy a cheap one that will last for a while until you can get something better.

If you’re new to working out, start slow

If you’re a beginner, don’t go overboard and try to lift 2x your body weight on your first day. Start with something light and work your way up. You don’t need to be lifting 4 times your body weight to see results.

Plan your workouts ahead of time

Make sure you’ve got a routine you’re going to stick to so you don’t waste time thinking about what you’re going to do. Work out when you’re most energetic, so you’re not tempted to give up when you’re tired.
