3. Lemon Juice Test

Put 1 teaspoon of lemon juice into your distilled water and wait for about 5 minutes to see what happens.

The acid in the lemon juice will react with the water and make a cloudy, bitter solution that can be seen on the bottom of your glass container.

This is a good way to test the acidity of your distilled water, but it may not be very accurate if you use regular lemons.

Try using limes instead.

4. Food Additives Test

Put 1 teaspoon of food coloring into your distilled water and wait for about 5 minutes to see what happens.

Food coloring does not dissolve as well in distilled water as it does in tap or filtered tap water because it is so pure!

If you want to do this experiment without food coloring, try putting the same amount of sugar or baking soda into the distilled water first.

Afterwards, add some food coloring to make a colorless solution that you can watch mixing with the rest of the solution. You may need to use more food coloring than 1 teaspoon.

You can also add a few drops of ammonia (you’ll need to buy ammonia at your local pharmacy) to the distilled water to make a purple solution.

We hope you enjoyed these 4 cool distilled water chemistry experiments. It’s always fun to be able to do your own experiments and watch the results. These were just a few examples of how you can use distilled water in your own science projects.
