Fantasy Island, or Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island, is a 2020 American horror film directed by Jeff Wadlow and co-written by him. It stars Michael Pea, Maggie Q, Austin Stowell, Jimmy O. Yang, Michael Rooker, and Portia Doubleday.

In the United Kingdom, it grossed $110 million. This movie is based on the 1978 TV series of the same name. Fantasy Island was released theatrically in the United States on February 14, 2020, to generally negative reviews from critics.

However, it was a successful box office production, grossing 49 million dollars globally against its $7 million production budget.

Earning Your Fairy Tale

Being able to live a normal life and go back in time and do what you want is very much like having a fairy tale, and this movie shows what people will do to get that chance.

It is said that Gwen Olsen (Maggie Q), Patrick Sullivan (Austin Stowell), Melanie Cole (Lucy Hale), and stepbrother JD Weaver (Ryan Hansen) win a contest and go to a nice island resort that run by a wealthy man named Mr. Roarke.

Islanders can live their deepest, darkest fantasies with no nag. However, every island reveals its true nature and what lies beneath its surface.

Although the movie did not receive the critical praise that Blumhouse had hoped for, it’s interesting to see how the movie views humanity’s devious thoughts.

Living Nightmares

The entire idea behind the movie is a pipe dream, and what the characters want to do is becoming a reality, similar to living nightmares.

Some characters die trying to achieve what they want to achieve, but one character, Melanie, gets exactly what she wants.

Melanie Taylor is delusional, and it becomes clear that she is going to cause horrifying horrors to be retributed because of an obsession she once had with her neighbor, Nick Taylor (Evan Evagora). Nick Taylor passed away in an accidental fire.

Melanie finally meets her longtime crush, but not in the way she thought she would. Patrick, who wanted to see his father once again, ends his own life by lying on a grenade, just like his father had gone in a war battle.

Gwen, JD, and Sloane are the only people that escape from the island with a few stab wounds.
