When it comes to fitness, the need for individuals to adapt has never been greater. With the constant advances in technology, regular exercise program is not only important, but it is now necessary.

We define fitness as the condition of being physically fit or healthy. It usually means “in good physical condition”. Fitness is an essential component of any healthy lifestyle; however, there are different types of training.

There are two major types of fitness: aerobic and anaerobic. We can divide these two categories into subcategories, such as strength, flexibility, balance, agility, endurance, and coordination.

Strength

Muscle strength is the ability to produce and control tension. We measure strength training by the level of force a muscle can produce. When you push against something, the muscle will respond by producing more tension and power. Strength exercises involve building muscle fibres in the muscle groups.

Flexibility

We define flexibility as “the ability to move through space without causing damage to tissue”. The way to measure flexibility is by calculating how much range of motion each joint of the body can achieve.

The more flexible you are, the more room you have to move around without causing damage to your muscles and joints. We can achieve this through stretching exercises that are performed slowly and gradually over time.

We should do stretching before any popular type of exercise routine or training that may cause strain on a specific muscle group.

Stretching also improves coordination between different muscle groups, allowing for better movement patterns during simple exercises such as callisthenics and weight training. Stretching helps prevent injury by keeping muscles loose and limber, so they will not tighten up and cause pain.

Balance

We define balance as “the ability to keep the body stable and upright”. Balance differs by how well a person can stay on one foot while performing a physical activity.

Balance exercise includes balance training, where the focus is on maintaining balance and coordination between different parts of the body.
