We all have friends we know are toxic. Sometimes they’re just not very nice people. But other times, they may be the worst of the worst.
Toxic people can be a nightmare to be around and, at times, can feel like they have the power to destroy your life. They’re great at making you feel bad about yourself and make you feel like you’re a terrible person.
They also try to get others to think that way about you as well. And if that isn’t bad enough, sometimes toxic people will go out of their way to destroy other people’s lives just because they don’t like them or don’t want them around.
This is called gaslighting and it is so damaging! It can leave you feeling confused and unsure of what is actually going on or if your feelings are actually real or not.
The following article will teach you how to spot toxic people in your life and how to deal with them when they do become a problem for you or for someone else.
Here are signs that you’re in a toxic friendship.
1. They’re constantly saying you’re being negative or a drama queen.
“You need to lighten up, why are you so negative all the time?” is something a toxic friend will say to you often. They might say this to you while you’re going through tough times, and try to guilt trip you for being in a bad mood.
While it’s true that we should be happy and grateful for what we have, this isn’t the time to bring it up or be down on yourself.
If someone has been making your life a living hell and won’t stop harassing you about how awful they think you are, then it’s time to speak up.
2. They try to get you in trouble at work or school.
You’ve probably had people try to get you in trouble at work or school before because they don’t like the way you do things or because they want you out of their way.
However, if your friend has started doing this more than once, then this is a sign that you’re in one of these toxic friendships.
A toxic friend might also start getting into your personal life by trying to get others to do things against your wishes.
