Keeping animals out of your garden is a constant battle. If you have ever tried to grow vegetables, fruit, or flowers in your yard, you know that animals love the taste of freshly grown plants.

Steps:

1. Fence

Fencing is the most effective way to keep most animals out of your garden. This is especially true for deer and rabbits. Deer are large and intelligent enough to jump over or crawl under most fences.

Rabbits will gnaw through almost anything to get into a vegetable garden. Consider building a fence that is eight feet tall with metal wires spaced four inches apart from each other on the outside of the fence.

The inside should be solid with chicken wire attached vertically along the length of the fence as well as horizontally along the bottom and top railings to prevent small animals from digging under it.

This type of fence will keep all but the largest wildlife out of your garden, although deer can easily jump over this rabbit fencing if they do not see it in time.

Another option is a deer-proof fence made from heavy gauge wire with 4-inch spaces between wires covered by plastic netting. This plastic netting better stretches horizontally along the top railings of your entire garden.

2. Wire

Use chicken wire, heavy-gauge wire, or heavy gauge plastic to make a fence around your garden.

These materials are strong enough to keep animals out of your garden and will also allow you to grow flowers and food sources without having to dig up the plants. Just make sure that you bury the fencing deep enough so that the animals cannot dig under it.
