The first step in sealing a brick is cleaning the brick. This will get rid of any dirt and oils that may be on the brick.

If there’s any old paint products on your bricks, remove them with a paint scraper. Using a paint scraper is especially helpful if you’re trying to replace your brick wall with a new coat of paint.

If your bricks are on the exterior of your premises, make sure to use a cleaning process that won’t damage the surroundings, such as shrubbery. Use safety goggles and gloves to be extra cautious. Choose a brick and masonry cleaner that’s of high quality and read the instructions carefully.

Generally, you will need to apply the cleaner and use a pressure washer or a type of stiff brush (such as a scrub brush) to get into all the nooks and cranny of the bricks. Make sure to remove rust stains, mildew, mold, vines, and any other contaminants.

After washing the bricks, you should also use a brick cleaner or something similar to clean the surface of the brick. You want to make sure that all of the dirt and oils are removed from the surface of the brick so that they don’t affect how well your sealer works later on down the road.
