How Does the Movie End?

This movie end with some scene like Sophia locates and apologizes to the girl she once destroyed and is forgiven for what she did.

Jamie finds and offers to take on financial responsibility for his son and former girlfriend.

Marlo feels that telling to Dean about her cover-up will cost her job, and so she refuses to do that. She refuses to admit she has lied to the Dean.

Instead, Marlo apologizes rather than apologize for the apparition of the deceased patient.

The death patient’s friend takes revenge, so even though Marlo is sorry for her actions, she does not forgive herself.

She imagines Courtney will tell her to forgive herself, and eventually, she does. They find a woman who’s almost didn’t survive and can revive her.

What Happens Next?

Marlo finally admits what she did to the Dean, and is put on probation. Hopefully, the Dean will decide that she is a suitable candidate for the position.

They throw Courtney’s laptop into the sea and decide not to do any more of this flipping business.

Jamie, Sophia, Marlo, and Ray go to a bar to drink beers while an elderly man plays a song that Courtney once played for them.

Actually, there is no correlation between this guy and Courtney. It’s just a coincidence. And with that, the movie ends.

What is the Meaning of All This?

The film does not tell about the inconsistency of the story but is rather a visual gap. At various moments, we are shown the guilt of the characters manifested as ghost.

Like a standard horror movie, there are scenes where the audience sees a “ghost” even when other characters don’t see it.

For example, we are shown the girl passing behind Sophia, even though she didn’t see her. We see the ghost of Jamie’s ex-boyfriend sneaking behind her, even if he doesn’t see her.

However, unlike other ghost movies, Flatliners points out that these “ghosts” are only in those characters who don’t see them, so automatically the audience will not see the ghost either.
