Southbound (2015) - Ending Explained

What’s The Movie About?

The first segment, The Way Out, begins with two wounded people, Mitch (Chad Villella) and Jack (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin), driving through a desert morning trying to find an escape from their situation.

Turns out that they are running from weird, floating monsters that have been following them all night long.

They stumble upon a highway that seems very mysterious, and they stop at an abandoned gas station.

When they try to drive away, they always end up at the same gas station.

Jack tries his hardest to escape the endless loop, but Mitch believes it is better to accept their fate than to escape it.

Jack is assassinated by one monster, while Mitch escapes to a motel. He finds himself trapped in a motel room and meets his deceased daughter, Catherine.

She calls out to him for help, but he chases her in an endless loop, unable to find her.

Suddenly, a maid comes out and puts up a sign saying “Do not disturb” on the door to tell someone not to enter the room, leaving him trapped.
