Mental disorders are very common and often have a serious impact on the person’s life. They can lead to a decline in personal functioning, school performance, social life, and occupational functioning.
Many people with mental disorders are unaware of their condition. Others believe that they are able to control their condition and often refuse treatment.
In reality, mental disorders are caused by biological, psychological, or environmental factors. There is no way to stop them from occurring.
However, there are ways to prevent them from getting worse or spreading. It is important for people with mental disorders to know the warning signs of a disorder so that they can get help early on.
1) A Change in Behavior
Changes in behavior are a common sign of mental disorders. For example, a person may become more irritable, withdrawn, and quiet.
He or she may start to talk about strange things or act out in a way that does not make sense. He or she may refuse to do things that he or she used to enjoy doing before the change occurred. If you notice these changes in your loved one’s behavior, it is important to seek help right away.
2. Withdrawal from Friends and Family
If your loved one begins to avoid people or becomes very quiet, it is possible that he or she has a mental disorder.
Withdrawal from friends and family is a common sign of depression and anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). These disorders can be extremely hard to treat and recovery is often slow, but with the right treatment they can be treated successfully.
