We have tried several ways to improve our self-portraits. It is difficult to have a “good” self-portrait because there are many elements that influence how we look in the mirror, but we believe that if you pay attention to these five self-portraits tips, you will get better results!

The 5 Self-Portraits Tips

1. Use a Wide-Angle Lens

This tip may seem obvious, but we can assure you that this is not always the case. The wide-angle lens has the effect of widening your image and increasing the space between your face and the background.

In this way, it helps us eliminate distractions such as hair or necklines. A large surface area of your face will also allow more light to reach it and make it brighter in comparison with other areas of your face (eyes, lips).

This also allows you to use a smaller aperture value, which is a good thing because it reduces the depth of field and gives greater control over focus and exposure values.

If you use a wide-angle lens without proper preparation, everything becomes blurry!

2. Use a Tripod or Other Support for Better Image Stability

A tripod will help you make a stable image, regardless of the height or angle. You can achieve a very nice result when you hold the camera in your hands, or if you place it on a support such as a table or the ground.

You can even get a better result with the camera resting on your knees because in this case, your elbows will not be in contact with the surface.

This allows you to have greater control over the direction of light and eliminates vibrations from hand movements.
